Who and How I Host

Filed under: Site News — by Kate Did What? @ 13:58

I’m not actually hosting anyone new right now. Not even the lovely and talented nermal, which was something I was really looking forward to. My private computer has glitched on me, and until I get it back I won’t be able to do anything interesting. The people who are already here are pretty cool on their own account, though.

Okay, so I’ve decided to host a few people here. I’ll be working on getting their pages up as they get their content ready. Each person will be linked from the menu to their own listing page, and all links from there will be to their stories. In other words, you’ll only find stories by these writers off their own pages. Only the Gallery is organized by content rather than artist.

I’m doing this for fun and play and good times. I’m not going to let it turn into a headache. This is entirely at a, “Toys, the beautiful toys” level. :]

I’m not taking submissions. I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, either, but guys – I am not a web designer. This is a first time thing for me, and I’m feeling my way along. I’m not trying to build an extensive community archive. Our community already has several of those, and I don’t have the time or the skill anyway.

This is a place to put my fiction of a certain very specific type, within a very narrow field to start with., and I’m hosting people that are in that same small box. Not everyone likes the blend of content that I do. For those of us who are still readers first, even when it comes to h/c-sf, I am hoping to put together a collection we’ll enjoy. So, I really am just putting things up here that appeal to my own particular tastes, and those of a few others like me.

If you’re just curious, this what I look for in a full-length fic :

- Character-based
- Relationship-focused, whether romantic or platonic
- A trackable plot
- A style developed enough to be accessible and engaging
- No glorification of non-consensuality or infidelity
- No gender, racial, or religious assumptions I find offensive

And that’s just to start. From there :

- A very particular kind of characters
- A very particular dynamic between them
- A very particular way the h/c/sf-yness is expressed
- A lack of issue-laden gender representations
- A lack of Othering of women or gay characters
- It rings my particular bells.

Seriously, that really is all it comes down to. There are a lot of wonderful writers out there who just don’t happen to punch my buttons. My interest in this type of fiction is not an insult to any of them. It’s MY INTEREST. That’s all. Feathers down.

I don’t at all mind people asking me about hosting, or for tips on how to set up a WP page of their own. (I’m no expert, but I’ll help if I can.) But this is the across-the-board explanation for why if my answer is that I don’t think we’re a good fit.

I hope you enjoy what you find here, and remember to tell these guys you like their work.
